Woman fired after video shows her blocking black man from entering his apartment building

first_imgCourtesy D’Arreion Toles(ST. LOUIS) — A white woman in St. Louis was fired after videos went viral of her trying to block a black man from entering his own apartment building on Saturday.D’Arreion Toles recorded his attempts to enter his apartment complex after returning home late from work. The woman can be seen standing in the doorway, asking what unit Toles lives in, and to see his key fob.“It’s not your building, you’re not the owner,” Toles says in the video before getting past her. The woman continues to follow Toles up to his fourth-floor loft and demands to find out whom he’s “going to see” and “why he’s there.”Toles asked her to stop following him, but she continued as he used his keys to open his door. Toles told ABC News that 30 minutes later police showed up because the woman had called 911.Toles posted the videos to his Facebook page early Saturday morning and they’ve been viewed more than 5 million times. He wrote that the videos show what it’s like “to be a black man in America” and “this is America in 2018.”The woman’s employer, Tribeca-STL, which manages real estate properties, said in a statement on its website that the company was aware of the video and that the woman had been terminated.“The Tribeca-STL family is a minority-owned company that consists of employees and residents from many racial backgrounds,” the statement continued. “We are proud of this fact and do not and never will stand for racism or racial profiling at our company.”The woman’s estranged husband, Brandon Mueller, posted a public video to his Facebook page condemning his ex-partner’s behavior.“As a man of color I have spent most of my professional career teaching others the importance of diversity and inclusion,” Mueller said. He hopes that the community will “not allow others ignorance to incite anger and hatred, but to use it as an opportunity to learn, grow, and promote love.”This is the latest video that has gone viral of a white person threatening to call the police on a black person for performing daily tasks.Internet users were quick to dub the woman in the video “Apartment Patty” after a woman dubbed “Permit Patty” who threatened to call 911 on an 8-year-old black girl for selling bottled water without a permit in California.Toles says this isn’t a time for negativity and asked people to send the woman “positive waves of energy.”“I wish anybody well,” Toles said.ABC News has reached out to Brandon Mueller for comment and is working to confirm the identity of the woman in the video.Copyright © 2018, ABC Radio. COVID-19 vaccine does not need to be halal, Ma’ruf Amin says

first_imgThis statement seems to contradict a previous statement made by Masduki in August, in which he said the vice president had urged Bio Farma to ensure that the much-anticipated COVID-19 vaccine would have halal certification before it was distributed.Masduki said Ma’ruf, who is also currently the non-active chairman of the Indonesia Ulema Council (MUI), would ask an MUI team to go to Beijing to verify whether or not the vaccine was halal.“But that will not be an obstacle. Why? I reiterate once again that a non-halal [vaccine] in an emergency situation is permitted,” he said.Read also: Govt gears up for future COVID-19 vaccination Vice President and senior Muslim cleric Ma’ruf Amin has said the COVID-19 vaccine currently being prepared by the government does not have to be halal, a spokesperson said on Friday.Vice presidential spokesperson Masduki Baidowi said Maruf’s statement came during a meeting with Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan about the progress of the vaccine currently being developed by Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac in partnership with state-owned pharmaceutical firm PT Bio Farma.“The vice president explained an important thing: If the vaccine is halal then that’s good, there’s no problem, but if it is not halal it’s also not a problem,” Masduki said in a statement on Friday. “Because it’s an emergency situation it’s okay to use [a non-halal vaccine].” The halal status of vaccines had previously become an issue in 2018, during a government measles and rubella vaccination campaign. At the time, the MUI issued a fatwa declaring that the measles-rubella (MR) vaccine was mubah (permitted for use by Muslims) despite containing materials derived from pigs, because a halal vaccine had yet to be made, constituting a “sharia emergency.”However, despite the fatwa, the Riau Islands chapter of the MUI still urged Muslims to reject the vaccine. “If the MR vaccine is really so important then we call on the government to quickly make one that is halal and safe for Muslims,” Riau Islands MUI secretary Ustadz Santoso said at the time. John Fox says Bears have had NFL’s worst offseason

first_imgFox, who also served as head coach for the Panthers from 2002-10 and the Broncos from 2011-14, is sure to draw eyerolls from Chicago fans. He posted a 14-34 record with the Bears before being fired at the end of the 2017 season. It’s also worth noting Fox was the team’s head coach when they cut their all-time leading scorer, kicker Robbie Gould. In Fox’s defense, though, the kicking situation in Chicago has been atrocious. The team is now left with Eddy Piñeiro and Elliott Fry after Cody Parkey and Chris Blewitt were cut. But Fox wasn’t alone, as former offensive lineman Damien Woody also singled out the Bears during the show.”Losing (defensive coordinator) Vic Fangio … I think is huge,” Woody said. “That Chicago Bears defense, it literally fueled their offense. It’s the identity of the Bears. And when you lose a talented defensive coordinator like that, I think there’s going to be some slippage there.” Whether Johnny Manziel plays in XFL ‘remains to be seen,’ Oliver Luck says Speaking during ESPN’s “NFL Live” on Monday, Fox shared his thoughts on his former team more than a year removed from his tenure at the helm.”I think when you’re going to play defense, you’re going to lean on takeaways to help a young offense, and you don’t have a kicker, a reliable kicker, that you’re going to need those points from after some of those turnovers,” Fox said, via the Chicago Sun-Times. “I think the kicking question is really big right now in Chicago. And I think that might be a problem for them in the season.” Related News Josh McCown retires after 16 NFL seasons, joins ESPN as analyst John Fox hasn’t been impressed by the Bears this offseason. In fact, the former Chicago coach and current ESPN analyst thinks they have had the worst offseason of any team in the league.
