Channing Frye, Richard Jefferson congratulate LeBron James with hilarious roast

first_imgAs LeBron James reached another milestone Wednesday to pass Michael Jordan for fourth place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, a couple of former teammates took notice and offered their congratulations. Channing Frye and Richard Jefferson, who played alongside James in Cleveland, playfully roasted James for his latest feat while calling him a “ball hog.” Frye: “If I just shot 14, 15 times a game….. Anyway, congrats man, you deserve it. You suck.”Jefferson: “It couldn’t have happened to a better guy. Except for me or him.”James needed 13 points entering Wednesday’s game to pass Jordan, which he accomplished during the Lakers’ 115-99 loss to the Nuggets. It took James 1,190 games to reach that mark, while Jordan needed 1,072. James now trails only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387), Karl Malone (36,928) and Kobe Bryant (33,643) on the all-time scoring list. Why don’t you try and pass John Stockton instead of trying to pass Kareem [Abdul-Jabbar]? Can you do that?” Related News The two then went back and forth as they joked about James:Frye: “Come up off the rock, buddy. Dribbling the air out of it. It’s ridiculous. It took him long enough. What is this, 19 years?”Jefferson: “It took him years! God, if I kept playing, I would have passed people too.”last_img read more

Wentworths veteran service office legislation clears committee

first_img The House Military and Veterans Affairs Committee approved legislation authored by State Rep. Jason Wentworth of Clare Tuesday encouraging Michigan counties to establish and maintain veteran service offices through a new grant program.Under Wentworth’s proposal, each county with a veteran service office that satisfies pre-approved requirements would receive $25,000, plus an additional amount based on the number of veterans in the county. To continue receiving the grant, an established county veteran service office must meet benchmarks for staff performance and reporting while maintaining the previous year’s funding level.“This grant is more than just helping veterans file for benefits they have earned,” said Wentworth, who chairs the House Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. “It’s about building trust between veterans and county veteran service offices, increasing awareness of the services provided and improving consistency within our veteran services locally.”Wentworth, who was a member of the House C.A.R.E.S. mental health task force, says the legislation is vital for veteran services across the state, which he and his colleagues heard about many times during the months the task force spent listening to mental health professionals and veterans last year.“The top recommendation my colleagues and I received during the task force meetings in regard to veteran mental health services was prioritizing veteran service offices at the county level,” said Wentworth, who is an Army Veteran. “Accredited county VSOs (Veteran Service Officers) are often the first line individuals who recognize what assistance veterans and their families need. They can refer veterans to another service provider or they can complete paperwork to get them enrolled in VA health care. This legislation will help improve access and expand services and outreach to provide stronger care to veterans locally.”Depending on the county, a VSO may only be at a single location for a few hours each month. There are 11 Michigan counties currently without a veterans service department. This could be due to lack of funding, partnering with neighboring counties or the number of veterans in the area.House Bill 5536 now advances to the full House for consideration.Photo Information: State Rep.
