E; [email protected] Cross Border Employees and Employers – FREE Breakfast Information SeminarOur colleagues Londonderry Chamber of Commerce in association with EURES Cross Border Partnership will hold a free Breakfast Tax Seminar for Cross Border workers and employers in the Bishop’s Gate Hotel, Derry on Thursday 25th May at 8.30am – 10am.Topics covered will include redundancy payments, tax and pension considerations and medical / benefit entitlements for the cross-border worker.In addition, this event will look at the implications for employers who employ cross border workers, addressing key issues such as payroll and tax. Community Employment Positions AvailableLetterkenny Chamber hosts a Community Employment project along with seven sub-sponsors based in Letterkenny and Newtowncunningham.Currently we are looking for clerical employees, care assistants (Newtowncunningham) and an art assistant/cleaner.Applicants must be eligible for Community Employment in the first instance. Hours are 19 ½ per week and the term of employment is for 52 weeks.Care Assistants get the opportunity to work towards a Fetac Level 5 qualification in Care Skills and all other positions are offered the opportunity to do certified training in various areas.Community Employment is a really worthwhile route into the job market.If you know someone who may be interested, please contact: [email protected] and ask then to indicate the position they are interested in. ************************** MEMBER UPDATES & EVENTS **************************1. John F Loughrey – Best Broker in Connaught/UlsterJohn F Loughrey Financial Services in Letterkenny was crowned the regional broker of the year at the prestigious Irish Brokers Association (IBA) Life, Pensions and Investment Awards in Dublin recently. The event, held in Croke Park, gives recognition to the life, pension and investment brokers who have proved their excellence, professionalism and dedication to maintaining high standards in the Irish marketplace.This year’s judging committee saw a significant increase in the number of nominations which, they said, reflects the prominence held by brokers of these highly respected industry awards.John F Loughrey picked up the top award in the ‘Best Broker in Connaught/Ulster’ category.Employing 16 staff, half of whom are qualified financial advisers, it is the largest brokerage in the north west.John Loughrey said that, despite winning in 2014 and 2015, the latest victory was somewhat unexpected. “We couldn’t believe it, we are all over the moon and it is great to have received the award in Croke Park”. John was joined at the ceremony by his daughter Lisa, also a director of the company. He dedicated the award to his wife, Mary, with whom he co-founded the company 35 years ago.Based at Crossview House in Letterkenny, John F. Donegal Youth Service – Celebrating SuccessDonegal Youth Service has been a member of Letterkenny Chamber for a number of years they work on many programmes directly impacting our young people across the county. They wanted to share with you some recent news.Volunteer Karen Conlon was awarded a ‘Top Outstanding Young Person Award’ at the Donegal JCI Award Ceremony in April. She does so much amazing work at DYS and we are delighted to see her get the recognition she deserves.Donegal Youth Council launched their ‘Sports Recognition for Girls Roadshow’ in the Aura Leisure Centre on Wednesday the 26th of April. The roadshow will continue throughout the month of May all throughout the county. It aims to promote more female participation in sports, create a more inclusive environment for girls and for female participation in sports to receive adequate recognition in comparison to their male counterparts. It was voted as a key priority by the young people of Donegal at the Agenda Day back in September 2016 when the 8th Donegal Youth Council were elected.The public voted for Donegal Youth Service as the charity to receive the proceeds from this year’s Trash ’N’ Fashion Event! The big event happens on May 18th in the Mount Errigal Hotel. Tickets are only €10 and it’s going to be a really great night showcasing the talents of Donegal students.Why not support this very worthwhile cause. ************************** INFORMATION SHARING **************************1. Network Survey on BrexitChambers Ireland carried out a Network Survey on Brexit over the past few weeks. It was a useful exercise in gauging what the Network’s primary concerns are regarding Brexit and what needs to happen next.
