DD Fitness: The Skinny Fat Phenomenon

first_imgThis article is aimed at men. We live in an age where everything is computerised. You name it; you can do it online. The trouble with this is that the majority of our lives are being spent in front of a computer. As men, we sit too much, drink too much coffee, stress too much, don’t sleep enough, have pretty awful diets and don’t exercise enough. Once upon a time, when food was food and there were no computers or video games, people used to go outside. You heard that right, OUTSIDE.You know that place where you go to get into the car, so you can drive to the gym and walk on a treadmill, or spin on a bike. You can spend time out there and do stuff, other than walking to your car. What is the result of the last few years of prosperity and technology? We have a generation of men who are skinny fat! This new body type is probably the unhealthiest that we as men are facing.Skinny fat looks like this:The extremities (arms and legs) are completely normal looking. In some cases they are actually thin, whereas the trunk of the body is carrying quite a bit of excess body-fat.When you are wearing jeans and a t-shirt you will look relatively normal. It won’t look as if there is a problem. However, when you remove the t-shirt it will look as if you have “moobs”, belly fat and probably a muffin top. This might seem a bit extreme, but when you look at the health and hormonal issues that are being studied regarding this issue, this is no laughing matter.A study in Journal of the American Medical Association found that; If you are skinny fat and get diagnosed with diabetes, you are twice as likely to die as if you are overweight and get diagnosed. You simply do not have the muscle mass that an overweight person has to protect you. Testosterone levels in skinny fat men were also found to be extremely low, with oestrogen levels being overly high.A simple test for you to know if you are low on testosterone: when you wake up in the morning, are you flaccid? If you are in your twenties and you consistently wake up like this, something is not right.Stress levels are also extremely important in the issue of skinny fat. Most people these days have stressful jobs, stressful commutes to work, and stressful lives outside of work. They survive on coffee and energy drinks, are always on their phone or computers, never get into full deep sleep, which leaves nearly every situation they face feeling stressful.Stress can affect your body’s ability to burn fat.So, let’s round this up;If you recognize yourself in this description, you probably have moobs, belly fat and a muffin top, the testosterone levels of a 16 year old girl and the stress levels of a mortgage broker when the 2008 crash happened. So what do we do?How do we fix this problem and get men back to looking like MEN?There are a few things you can do.1. HAVE PATIENCEDo not go looking for a quick fix to this problem. You will be looking to build muscle while burning off fat.For a beginner, this IS possible.Just don’t think that you will do an 8 or 12 week ‘Transformation’ and you will have the body of a Greek God after, because you won’t.2. Put yourself in a slight calorie Deficit. This should be relatively small. You may see some weight loss every few weeks, but that isn’t and shouldn’t be the goal here. The idea is to be able to build some muscle while losing some belly fat.Going too extreme on either one won’t get the desired results.Tips for this are;>Stop eating pre-packaged and processed foods and reduce your consumption of junk food.>Reduce your consumption of sugary drinks and alcohol.>Eat protein at every meal.>Increase your intake of healthy fats.>Take a multi vitamin, quality fish oil and a vitamin D supplement.3. START WEIGHT TRAINING.Start lifting weights and concentrate the bigger lifts like the squat, chin ups/lat pull down, deadlifts, bench press and overhead press as they work more muscle groups at a time and will help to also build some strength along with the much-needed muscle mass.Aim for reps of between 6-12 reps and 3-6 sets per exercise. You do not need to do cardio as it isn’t necessary, however being more active is important, so aiming for 10,000 steps per day is a good way to get you out of your chair and away from the computer more often.Trying to burn fat with excessive cardio without building muscle will only leave you a skinnier, fatter version of what you previously were, so please don’t try and use this as an alternative.Other tips that you can implement are to reduce your time online, especially before bed.Preferably, there should be no screen time for 2-3 hours before bed to allow for a better night’s sleep and for your brain to relax. What could you do instead? Here’s a few ideas:>Go outside,>Go to the gym>Read a book.>Talk to people.Sooner or later you will have to face up to the fact that, if you are skinny fat, you are on the road to severe health issues in the near future. How you deal with this is your choice, try and make it a good one.#TrainSmarthttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Rushe-Fitness/120518884715118?ref=hl* Emmet is the owner and operator of Rushe FitnessDD Fitness: The Skinny Fat Phenomenon was last modified: April 22nd, 2017 by Emmet RusheShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:healthrushe fitnessskinny fatlast_img read more

His frames are urgently alive with telling details. This film announces a persuasive and deeply human directorial vision, one rich with authenticity and insight,” read a statement by the judges. The panel of judges who selected the film include Brooke Shields whose most recent film is Lipstick Jungle, Justin Bartha from the movie Hangover, Peter Facinelli, who stars in the Twilight movies, and Jack Dorsey, creator and chairperson of social site Twitter. They described the film as being exceptional and touching.“It is a film of resilience and hope. It is an assured, original, and profoundly moving film, which perfectly executes its aims and is buoyed by a remarkable performance by its lead actor,” the judges said.In 2009 the film won an award at the Tri-Continental Film Festival. It has also been included in the South African Line-Up event for the Cannes Film Festival this year. The film looks at the life of a naive teenage black girl who writes to Father Christmas requesting long straight hair as her Christmas gift. She has low self-esteem and hopes the hair will help her gain more confidence. Her hopes are shattered when a pessimistic man from her neighbourhood  tells her Father Christmas is not real. However, her grandmother is there to help her through her uncertainty, and teaches her to love herself.“I think this film hits home to all young black girls all over the world,’” said Mpho Setati, a film student at Afda film school in Johannesburg. “This is a great South Africa film that showcases the talent of our country, and the world is taking notice and rewarding our talent,” she said. The Tribeca Film Festival was held in Manhattan, New York, from 21 April to 2 May. Currently in its ninth year, it was launched by well-known Hollywood actor Robert de Niro, film producer Jane Rosenthal, and real estate investor Craig Hatkoff in 2002. The trio were motivated to start the festival after the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001.“We hoped to use the festival to spur the economic and cultural revitalisation of the lower Manhattan district and to help filmmakers reach the broadest possible audience while promoting New York City as a major filmmaking center,” they said in a statement. The award for winning Best Narrative Short Film was R38 336 (US$5 000) in cash, film stock donated by Kodak, and an art award, “A Box of Smile, 1967/89”, by Yoko Ono.last_img read more

How the Air Force Is Flying Toward IPv6

first_imgThe United States Air Force is one very high-tech organization, and we’re not just talking about jet fighters. The Air Force’s latest mission is a high-stakes, high-speed migration to Internet Protocol v6 (IPv6). Chances are most corporate networks aren’t as extensive or complex as the Air Force’s, but the service’s planning operations offer worthwhile lessons for many organizations. The Air Force began its transition to IPv6 earlier this summer, and expects to have its entire network migrated by the end of September 2014, the deadline self-imposed by the US government for all of its network operations. The move to IPv6 will also let the Air Force support more ad hoc networks in the field – making it more operationally agile and better able to support machine-to-machine communications.A Complex MissionSeveral years ago the Air Force established a Transition Management Office (TMO) at Scott Air Force Base, located outside of St. Louis, to help coordinate the effort. ReadWriteWeb visited with Doug Fry, Network Engineer, Air Force Network Integration Center and engineering lead for the TMO. His role is to develop network policies and operational procedures that will be carried out by the various Air Force base engineers around the world. Fry is giving a talk at the upcoming New York City Interop this fall. One of Fry’s biggest issues is maintaining the security of the network as it makes its transition to IPv6. “We can’t let unknown traffic traverse our networks, of course, but the security tools that we have in our inventory aren’t fully v6 compliant yet.”The Air Force has 130 bases and about 100 of them are IPv6 capable and ready, according to Fry. He is working on the rest right now.The Air Force base furthest along in the transition process is Eglin in the Florida panhandle, which also happens to be the service’s largest base – covering more than 600 square miles and employing more than 30,000 people. To give you an idea of the size of the base, it has 30,000 individual IP addresses assigned, to a wide mix of both computing and embedded equipment. There are two core networks, 14 access layer devices, and 5000 in-building switches. That is a lot of gear to migrate over to the new networking protocols. But Eglin’s lead role is more a matter of circumstances than anything else: the base’s aging Cisco routers and switches were due for a major refresh at the same time that the Air Force was planning the IPv6 transition. This seems obvious but it is worth mentioning.Make sure all your monitoring equipment is up to snuff. Eglin uses homegrown IP address assignment and monitoring programs, and of course these will have to be upgrade to handle the longer IPv6 addresses. Now is the time to make sure your entire network documentation actually reflects what is actually deployed. “Some Air Force bases are better documented than others,” said Fry.Upgrade your router firmware or replace them to handle IPv6.Build a test lab that replicates your entire network if you can afford to. “I wish we had the budget to build a lab from the beginning, it would have been helpful to learn more about IPv6 before we got down the road,” said Lee Tran, a technical advisor for the Operational Infrastructure Branch and part of the Communications Squadron for Eglin. (You can read a ReadWriteWeb a white paper about this topic here.Understand how things will change when you add new desktops or network infrastructure to your IPv6 network. “You don’t want to introduce any new vulnerabilities,” said Tran. One issue for the Air Force is being able to automatically push out security patches to its routers over an IPv6 network. “Right now we have to do this manually,” he said. Another implication is how your desktops will come with support for IPv6, and whether you want this active or not before you actually cut over to IPv6.Finally, participate in the next World IPv6 Day in June and other experiments to prove out your installation and deployment plans.“This was incredibly helpful for us, and I was glad to see that our IPv6 servers didn’t have any issues then,” said Fry.Good luck with your own IPv6 transition plans.Lead image and Air Force medallion courtesy of Shutterstock.Bottom image courtesy of the US Air Force.last_img read more

Your Goals and Your Effort

first_imgAs a young child, I went to Catholic Schools. When I reached my rebellious teenage years, my grades began to suffer. But at Catholic schools, you received two grades. The first was your letter grade, the mark that you achieved. The second grade was a number between 1 and 4. My grades consisted of a lot of C4’s. That meant that I got a C and put forth absolutely the lowest possible effort.I didn’t get in trouble for the C. I got in trouble for the 4. My mom would have taken a C1, that would have indicated an average score with the maximum effort. She would not accept a C4, even though I gave her plenty of them.If you are doing just enough to reach your activity quota, you aren’t working to your capacity. How does one know this? Because you are at—or just under— what someone else has required of you. That activity goal is not a goal you set for yourself. Instead, it is what someone else expects of you, likely determined by what is average, what is acceptable. If the activity quota would have been greater when you started, then you would already be doing more than you are now, provided you are the kind of person who does only what is expected of them, and no more. You’d also be producing the better results that would accompany greater effort. What someone else finds acceptable for you should not be what you find acceptable. That would be to accept too low a standard. Your standard should be your own. You should work to your potential.Your goals are your own. Your personal quota is not your company’s quota. It is what you determine you want for yourself. If you want greater income, then you can’t work to what is minimally acceptable performance. If you want to work to your full potential, you have to put forth the effort of which you are capable, not what someone else will accept from you.If you are honest with yourself about how you are doing, would you grade yourself a 1 for maximum effort, or would the score you give yourself indicate that you are coasting, doing just enough to get by?path Essential Reading! US Open: Leander Paes, Sania Mirza crash out of mixed doubles quarters

first_imgLeander Paes and Sania Mirza, along with their respective partners, crashed out of the mixed doubles event of the US Open after losing in the quarterfinals in New York. The third-seeded Indo-Russian pair of Paes and Elena Vesnina was stunned by the seventh-seeded Czech duo of Lucie Hradecka and Frantisek Cermak 6-7 (2) 5-7 in a battle that lasted an hour and 43 minutes.Paes and Elena could win just 67 points as compared to their rivals’ 80, while they also committed 25 unforced errors.Sania along with her British partner Colin Fleming also went down in straight sets to fourth seeds Kveta Peschke of Czech Republic and Poland’s Marcin Matkowski.Unseeded Sania and Fleming failed to match their more fancied opponents in the match to bow out in just 69 minutes, losing 3-6 5-7.The Indo-British combo wasted as many as seven out of the eight breakpoints they got, to go down tamely.last_img read more

Michael Jordans 2016 Shoe Earnings Was Greater Than LeBron

Michael Jordan (left) can thank his Air Jordan for his huge Nike sales over LeBron James. (Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)Although LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers lost the 2017 NBA Finals, the small forward can take solace in knowing he brought in the most moolah among current ballers with a shoe deal. The only thing is, he’s nowhere close to retired Chicago Bulls shooting guard Michael Jordan’s earnings.James’ Nike deal brought in $32 million in the last year, Forbes estimates. His endorsement began when he entered the NBA in 2003, which had an eventual $100 million payout over seven years — the biggest shoe deal to be given to a rookie.Yet Jordan’s $110 million earnings, thanks to Air Jordan revenues reaching $2.8 billion in the 2016 fiscal year, makes James’ $32 million look paltry. A combination of payouts from current top-earning NBA players — Kevin Durant’s $25 million from Nike, James Harden’s $14 million with Adidas, Stephen Curry’s $12 million with Under Armour, Derrick Rose’s $11 million with Adidas and James’ income — doesn’t break the $100 million mark.Such high earnings make LaVar Ball’s push for his basketball-playing sons to go their own way with the Big Baller Brand even more significant, as Uproxx reported James and Durant make almost equal amounts from playing ball as they do from shoe deals. Ball’s three sons have yet to enter the NBA, although Lonzo Ball is considered a top prospect for the draft. read more

GSA to Hold Second Auction for WVa Navy Facility

first_img Dan Cohen AUTHOR The General Services Administration (GSA) plans to hold a second auction for a former communications facility run by the Navy in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia after the winning bidder in an online auction was unable to complete the transaction. That auction closed in July with a high bid of $11.2 million for Sugar Grove Station submitted by an unidentified buyer.
