After an initial lull, Pardeep Narwal bustled up and turned a ray of sunshine as Patna Pirates beat Gujarat Fortunegiants 55-38 to clinch its third straight title in the ProKabaddi league here on Saturday. After the crowd soaked in the nightclub vibe — it went wild as if lured into riotous living — before the play began, the Fortunegiants flew high initially. While defending — its forte — it was wonderfully braced. Its defenders, mostly forming a chain, seemed to take any raider down with ease. Pirates suffered an all-out to go down 3-9, and even its cracker-jack of a raider, Pardeep Narwal, looked as if he was disarmed and helpless. He was held easy when the Pirates went down 6-13.But it all was to become a distant memory for the Pirates as Narwal turned beastly eftsoons. One particular stretch of play showed his devilish efficiency. The Pirates was down to two men and on the verge of an all-out, when he raided a full-strength opposition and put out two defenders. From there, with him pulling off a few more successful raids, the situation reversed that the Fortunegiants suffered an all-out. Narwal scored 19 points in all.The result: Patna Pirates 55 bt Gujarat Fortunegiants 38.Special awards (for the season): Top-scorer: Pardeep Narwal (Patna Pirates); Best debutant: Sachin (Gujarat Fortunegiants); Best raider: Pardeep Narwal; Best defender: Surender Nada (Haryana Steelers); Most valuable player: Pardeep Narwal.
